Introduction
Hello Everyone!
My name is Stephanie Luna, a physical therapist residing currently in Dallas, Texas. I hope that you all are staying warm where ever this post finds you.
Schooled
I am excited to be a part of tDPT program at the University of St. Augustine. Surprising to say, this is my second to last semester prior to graduating. I initially graduated from the physical therapy program at the Medical College of Georgia in Augusta, class of 2001. Prior to this, I received a bachelor's degree in exercise science/athletic training, working with collegiate teams of various sports at the University of South Carolina.
The Road Traveled
Following my time with the Air Force (1995), I began a post-rehab integration program in a gym setting to focus on prevention of injury specific to the return-to-sport recovery phase, placing this small business extension within one of the two sports facilities that I co-owned "back in the day". This sparked my interest in physical therapy.
My first job as a PT, working in a small but busy outpatient center of a rehab hospital, was instrumental for learning to work with multidisciplinary teams and building a variety of experience with emphasis on orthopedics/trauma, neurology, pain, balance, migraine, advanced amputation training, wound care, and aquatics. After 8 years, I sold my part of the businesses and worked along Florida's east and west coast as a PT traveler for outpatient clinics, both private and hospital-affiliated. Previous to moving to Texas 5 years ago, I opened a small cash-based PT clinic in Boca Raton, with a focus on education and multi-sport training. My current position is as a clinical administrator/educator for a telehealth physical therapy platform. I am greatly looking forward to learning more about women's health and wellness, as this is an area that I have not previous explored in-depth.
Site Seeing
Driving along the Pacific California Coast Highway 1 with my husband and son is top on my list for favorite sites stateside (experiencing this with my family was my favorite part). Flying low over the southern Turkish mountains and over Cypress was breathtaking.
What's Next
I would say a positive characteristic that helps me persevere is being able to visualize my goal as if it's possible and finding some way to achieve it, albeit unconventionally. I am hoping to learn more about women's health and wellness to assist in building educational support for online training and integrate care within mobile sports venues.
Thank you for spending time here to get to know me. I'm looking forward to knowing more about you! Can you share how you plan to utilize or apply what is learned within this course?
Best,
Stephanie

Hello Stephanie, nice to meet you1 I love that you have a variety of experience! looking forward to learning more about you!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Zeba! Looking forward to the same!
DeleteHi Stephanie, I currently work in the outpatient clinic of a inpatient rehabilitation hospital. I really enjoy my job as I have the opportunity of being a hybrid therapist and treat both inpatient and outpatient patients. I'm excited to learn more from you, good luck!
ReplyDeleteHi Marilyn! I miss my days as part of the rehab team. Looking forward to your perspective.
DeleteHi Stephanie, That is an amazing resume. I am in awe of all you have accomplished. Bravo!
ReplyDeleteI started the tDPT program partly because I thought it would be a benefit if I want to do telehealth. I would love to learn more about the telehealth practice. I think women's health patient could benefit from a combination of in person and telehealth option to help with access to care. Looking forward to working with you !
Hi Vibha! I would be happy to chat with you regarding telehealth!
DeleteHello Stephanie, congratulations on all your accomplishments and thank you for your service. I would love to work athletes and sports injuries/recovery but I have been told that their is very little jobs available to Occupational therapist within this area, I am hoping that I can make this happen even if it means creating my own facility. I love going to the Colorado mountains it's just so beautiful especial when snow covers the mountain tops, I can't imagine how beautiful those Turkish mountains look, hoping I am able to see them one day. I am a new grad so i am looking forward to working and learning from you and seeing how I can better collaborate with PTs to get my patients to reaching all their goals.
ReplyDeleteHello Stephanie,
ReplyDeleteIt is great to know a little bit more about you seeing as we are in the same group and don't seem to have a lot of time to connect more on a less formal level! I had the great opportunity to work with a PT who worked in the Military before she returned to civilian practice, and like you, it seems, she was highly organized with laser vision in how she focused her practice. It is great working with you and I hope we all achieve enhanced nuance to our respective clinical work as the result of the learning we gain in this Women's Health course.
